Why You Need the Stiffshifter

Modern derailleurs are larger in size, have longer lengths, and exert significant force on the UDH derailleur hanger. However, this component consists of only about 5 mm Aluminum, which must absorb all the forces between the Frame, Derailleur, and drivetrain. This can cause flex in the system—and it is precisely this flex that affects shifting precision.

The Stiffshifter stiffens the connection between the frame, Derailleur hanger, and Derailleur, significantly reducing movement. The result: a more stable drivetrain and noticeably smoother gear shifts, even when the trail gets rough.

What happens in the event of a crash?

The UDH derailleur hanger is often described as a "predetermined breaking point." In practice, however, derailleur hangers bend much more frequently long before they actually break. Even minor contacts with stones or pressure during transport can be enough to change the alignment—with noticeable effects on shifting precision.

In the event of a fatal crash, the Stiffshifter will break before your frame is damaged. The Stiffshifter has only 1.5 mm of material in the relevant area. The UDH dropout has 18 mm.

In the event of heavy falls or hard impacts, forces continue to act on the entire system – just as they would without Stiffshifter.
Warum bricht mein UDH Schaltauge ständig?

UDH Schaltaugen sind aus weichem Aluminium und sollen bei Stürzen brechen, um den Rahmen zu schützen.

Problem: Moderne Schaltwerke sind so lang und exponiert, dass schon leichte Kontakte ausreichen.
